Family Days Out Near Royston

 

Banyers House is a great base for a family break away. Just a 15 minute train ride away from Cambridge, the city offers a variety of activities to keep the whole family entertained. For the more adventurous there is paintballing nearby and a wildlife park for a more traditional family outing.

 
 

Cambridge

Cambridge is a city packed full of activities for families.

Punting along the river Cam is a fun way to spend time outdoors, enjoying the sights of the beautiful historical buildings and their grounds.

The Museum of Zoology is home to thousands of specimens spanning the entire animal kingdom, from elephants, giant ground sloths and giraffes, to birds, reptiles, insects and molluscs. A new Whale Hall has been designed to house a 21 metre long Fin whale. Entry is free for all the family.

The Science Centre is designed to encourage children and young adults to be passionate about STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths - as there is a national shortage of adults with these skills. The Centre provides an inspirational experience, with over 30 hands-on exhibits, science shows and activities.

A 5 minute walk to the mainline train station then a 15 minute train ride into the city.

 
 

Shepreth Wildlife Park

Take a walk on the wild side at Shepreth. The zoo is home to, among others, tigers, red pandas, capybara, reptiles and birds of prey as well a tropical and nocturnal house and a big indoor play barn. There are daily keeper talks and a café for refreshments. Shepreth is 6 miles from Banyers House.

 
 

Apocalypse paintball

Designed to test even the most experienced players, this site is a must-visit for every paintball fanatic, as well as being a fun, immersive experience for players of all ages that are new to the sport. Visitors get a chance to experience a wide-range of gaming zones, from jungles to villages with a choice of low or high impact packages. Minimum age for children is 9.
